International Literacy Day (#ILD) is a day set aside by UNESCO to mark the importance of literacy in all countries and cultures of the World. This day is celebrated annually on the 8th of September .
This year, the Library Staff of Admiralty University of Nigeria , led by the University Librarian – Dr. (Mrs.) G.N Onyia emphasise the need for librarians to upskill and re skill themselves for professional best practises and to be able to build literate communities. Consequently, ADUN Library staff joins UNESCO and various Countries of the world to mark this year's celebration by actively participating in the ongoing UNESCO'S Online International Conference, and the Library Literacy Virtual Conference put together by the University of Lagos Library and the American Center Directorate of the U S Consulate General, Lagos.
It is hoped that lessons learnt from this conference will expose the University Library Staff to improved skills and competencies, new service tips for more engaging services for clients of their library.
The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide’.
The University Library invites all Admiralties and Admirables who are yet to register with the library to do so and acquaint themselves with amazing services rendered in the library.
