ADMIRALTY UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA MAIDEN STUDENTS’ WEEK CELEBRATION

Story by: Admirables Echela, Echela O. and Jonathan Lodge

As the saying goes, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) a Global University poised at grooming seasoned Luminary Leaders is not left out from numbers of Institutions that ensures its students are not just tutored within the walls of the classroom alone, but other activities that will make learning fun are incorporated thereto. Following the Vice Chancellor’s approval, the maiden Student Week was organized by the pioneer Student Representative Council (SRC) under the leadership of Admirable Comrade Aboh Godgift Francis from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th  August 2021. Series of interesting and educative activities were conducted during the Students Week. Join me as we tag along through the celebrations bit-by-bit.

Monday 9 August 2021, was ushered in with students embarking on physical fitness exercise (jogging around the campus) in the company of the invited Bands group. To prepare the students properly toward the series of activities lined up. The opening ceremony was conducted the same day at the University’s Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) and was graced by majority of the top echelons of the Institution’s personalities. An Educative lecture was presented by Mr. Augustine Okolobi on how to attain entrepreneurship prowess. The lecture which was titled “Soft skills vitality to being an entrepreneur” serves as an eye-opener to the students and hence, was a very motivating moment.

Tuesday 10 August 2021 was tagged ‘Old School Day. However, other activities of interest were a sensational debate on the topic “Has COVID-19 been of Economic Impact to Nigeria?” and a Quiz, testing general knowledge of the students. Events of the day were climaxed by an interesting movie night for the watching pleasure of Admirables.

Wednesday 11 August 2021 the female Admirables proved to the male folks that what men can do, they could equally do better, thus - the female Admirable entertained the ADUN community with series of sporting activities of interest. The day witnessed glamor female football team who turned the atmosphere into a beautiful one. Other sporting activities of interest displayed on same day include egg race and sack race. All participants showcased their talents, it was indeed a day filled with good memories worth remembering.

Thursday 12 August 2021 the fourth day of the celebration coincidentally collided with the University’s 5th Public Lecture titled “Africa’s Latent Assets”. A lecture which was presented by a renowned scholar and Author, Professor James Robinson, was apt for Africa’s current situations and there won’t have been a better time for such lecture than having it conducted during the Students Week. This went a long way in re-orienting the Admirables on the degrees of Latent Assets they possess.

Friday, 13 August 2021 was a day set aside for cultural day celebration, to appreciate, share, enhance and strengthen mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation in order to maintain, preserve, and enrich each Nigeria’s culture and a platform for talented singing, dancing and musical performances. Students identified with other students of their respective ethnic groups, and cultural heritages/dances were displayed. This day’s activity was brought to conclusion by conducting the Institution’s first-ever Bonfire Night.

Saturday 14 August 2021 The male football and basketball teams took turns to entertain the community on the sixth day of the celebration. There is no competition of any form that is devoid of award-giving. Therefore, to ensure the celebration was not only centered on mere entertainment, the sixth day equally marked the organization of dinner/award giving night. Distinguished staff and students were recognized and due prizes were presented to them appropriately.

To everything under the sun, the Holy Book says, there is a season. Time to begin and time to end; however, ending without appreciating God for a successful celebration would have been tantamount to belittling the Creator Who made the week-long activities a huge success. Consequently, thanksgiving was offered to God as recognition of His faithfulness throughout the period on Sunday 15 August 2021 at ADUN Non-Denominational Fellowship (NDF.)

Indeed, it was, and remains a memorable week in the minds of Admirables, and as we look forward to better Student Week celebrations, lessons learned from this novel week will not be forgotten in a hurry.

Long live SRC, long live ADUN, and long live the Nigerian Navy.

Onward Together!

The visit to both libraries was an eye opener as the Library team was enlightened on processes and technologies used in effective library management and service delivery. The visit to DSPG Library was a fruitful one as the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Alex Obuh and his HOD, Library Science, Mrs Ayobi Grace received with joy the ADUN Library Team. HOW CAN LUMINARY LEADERS MANAGE THEIR TIME?

HOW CAN LUMINARY LEADERS MANAGE THEIR TIME? By: Admiralble AYA, Eneneaseh Offu, Software Engineering Student, Admiralty University of Nigeria, Delta State. Humans tend to waste a lot of things, such as food, electricity, money, water, tissue paper, etc. Funny enough, one would say, these are material things and they can be always recovered. One can get them anywhere through different kind of means, but come to think of it, the worst thing a man should waste is ‘ TIME ’. Time is Precious. In the context of this article, time wastage simply means 'devotion of time to an unnecessary activity or idleness, as a result of procrastination. As the popular saying goes, time wasted can never be recovered no matter what. The difference between time waste and material waste is that there is no salvage for a wasted time but there’s salvage for material waste. You can throw away your food today and get another tomorrow, you can waste your money today and still work to get another one, but on
