Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN) Library on 26th and 27th of October 2020, organized a Capacity Development Programme aimed at improving the culture of mentorship, excellence, teamwork and professionalism in library service delivery. The 2days programme was coordinated by Mr. Emuesiri Etagbedavwe, CLN.
Day1: The University Library Coordinator, Mr. Sylvester
Ebhonu, in his opening remarks encouraged library staff to take the programme seriously as it would help in enhancing staff capacity and service delivery to patrons. In his words, "times have changed, libraries
and librarians cannot afford to be left out, hence this programme is put in
place."
The Key Resource Person for the workshop - Mrs. Alice Omaji engaged library staff on the topic: "Academic Library Service in the 21st Century : Ranganathan's Model and Implications for the 21st Century Librarian." In the course of her session, participants were able to explore and gain deeper insights on 21st century information needs and roles in an academic library. She also stressed on the need for teamwork and proper conflict resolution procedure in achieving the objectives of the Library.
DAY 2: The first presentation - "Productive Internet Search Skills for Reference Assistance" was facilitated by the Library Coordinator, Mr. Sylvester Ebhonu. While recommending best sources of online information using practical approach, he explained the reference interview process and how best to carry out internet search. While concluding, he said - "using the right tools is what brings about a productive search on the internet."
The second topic titled: "Book Location, the Art of Proper Shelving and Shelf-reading" was delivered by Mr. Emuesiri Etagbedavwe, CLN. He stressed on the need for orderly shelving of books in the library and the need for library staff to get more acquainted with the various information resources available and their exact locations in the stacks area. The session was both theory and practical as he described the procedures for proper shelving and shelf-reading of materials and recommended great call to actions.
The University Library is grateful to Prof. Paul Omojo Omaji (Vice Chancellor, ADUN) for his unwavering support and commitment to the growth and development of the library in all aspects, especially for the success of the programme.
